How To Make Yourself A Priority

Take time for yourself

FOMO is a real thing nowadays with social media and being allowed the access to view and see everyone else’s highlight reel and most exciting moments. It’s important and good to recognize when you need to take a step back and focus on yourself. This can consist of journaling, reading, taking a bath, anything really. Whatever it is that you prefer to wind down.

Stop feeling guilty

This ties into the previous point and by this, I mean to stop feeling guilty about missing out on things. If you have to make sacrifices such as spending time with a friend or family member because you are feeling low and need to focus on yourself, don’t feel bad or guilty for choosing yourself. It will be hard; however, you cannot be your best self if you are not taking the time for yourself.

Step into your “season of no”

This is another point that ties into the first listed point. The season of “no” involves you deciding what is best for you and this will be different for everyone. This involves saying no to anything that compromises your peace or overwhelms you. Many of us know our limits and if you are overbooking yourself, feel comfortable and confident to tell people no to plans so you can focus on your own priorities, even if that means you simply are spending the night catching up on a show you like to watch. Big or small, it doesn’t matter.

Compliment yourself

This is self explanatory. It’s easy to let negative thoughts creep in and take over; however, it is essential, though it can be challenging, to compliment yourself and encourage yourself. For example, if all you can do for the day is maintain your meals and lounge, don’t be so hard on yourself & remind yourself that you’ve done what you can for that day and it was great. On the other hand, physically compliment yourself! Everyone loves a good compliment; however, we can’t always depend on others to receive these compliments so why not compliment ourselves and make ourselves feel good!

Get rid of negative energies

This is probably one of the most important tips. This negative energy can come from anything. For example, from anything you are holding onto that pertains to a person or place that is no longer part of your life or a particular person or group of people. It it’s an item or items, get rid of them. If the negative energy comes from a person or multiple people, cut them off. If you can’t, possibly a family member, then limit your communicate and time with this person or people.

Practice gratitude

Personally, I think practicing gratitude is so important for everyday life. You can do this in so many different ways, and one of the most effective is by writing things down. You can set aside 5-10 minutes per day to write out things that happened throughout the day you were grateful for or begin your day writing a set amount of things you are grateful for.
