My New Years Resolutions/Goals for 2022

Hi everyone! I know New Year Resolutions are somewhat overrated; however, I wanted to share mine because this is really the first year that I'm making some and really want to hold myself accountable to these goals I'm setting for myself!

Lets begin!

REPLACE HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS WITH NON-TOXIC CLEANERS

This one is definitely at the top of my list. Doing this has been on my mind for a little while now and I'm finally learning more and after being diagnosed with my autoimmune disease, Hashimoto's disease, it is more important than ever to me to do my part to ensure I'm taking the best care of not only my body but also my environment that directly affects me and my body.

USE LESS PLASTIC

This resolution or goal is mainly in home; however, I also want to improve some areas such as using plastic straws at restaurants. I live in NY state and plastic bags are no longer provided at stores. I made that switch awhile back and purchased a ton of reusable bags to use for shopping. It's been difficult during COVID to prevent plastic use for things such as receiving an iced coffee (most coffee shops are still not allowing reusable cups) so ultimately, I want to limit my purchases of anything that may come in a single use plastic container. I'd also like to limit using plastic straws while eating out. I have so many reusable straws and they make so many options to carry these with you, so I would like to hold myself accountable to utilizing these.

TRY OUT ONE NEW RECIPE PER WEEK

I love to cook, so this is something that I'm really excited to try out. I usually am good with mixing up recipes and not cooking the same thing over and over again, or too close together; however, it can sometimes be overwhelming when you have work, school, and a social life to maintain. I use Pinterest and this has always made finding new recipes so easy and fun! I already have some saved that I am excited to try! :)

EAT GREENS/VEGGIES EVERYDAY

This goal is something that I simply need to improve on. I go through phases within my "diet" that I am doing very great and I feel great; however, usually it is followed up with my completing falling out of my routine and eating junk. This is usually a constant cycle, and I'm notorious for failing my diet on the weekends. (Also, by diet, I do not mean that I am "dieting" or restricting myself in any way, I simply mean diet for what it is - the things I eat). With this being said, I want to ensure I am getting enough nutrients from the good foods such as vegetables, and greens such as spinach and kale.

LOSE WEIGHT/GAIN MORE STRENGTH

This goal is very personal to me. I've previously mentioned that I have Hashimoto's and Hypothyroidism which affects a lot, including my weight. I noticed weight gain back in 2019 and I would work out at the gym for hours at a time, every single day. I really struggled to understand what was going on with my body and this went on for about a year and a half until I finally received a diagnosis of Hypothyroidism. I was prescribed medication and lost weight immediately, simply from my hormones and body operating the way it is supposed to; however, in late 2020, I noticed the same symptoms and patterns were reoccurring (my body at a standstill - no weight loss improvements, etc) and asked for additional testing and this is when I received the Hashimoto's disease diagnosis. At this point in my diagnosis, it's important to me to treat my body with kindness and love while doing exercises to help me reach my goals.

STAY ORGANIZED THROUGH CHAOS

This goal is something that is again, personal to me. I go through so much and a lot of the time, this will throw me completely off track and often, it can take me a bit to get back into things. I'm making it a goal to really remain grounded and true to myself, even through any chaos and to maintain my own life and my own priorities.

TRAVEL MORE

This goal is something I had set for 2020-2021 and then COVID happened so that really slowed me down. It was a great break; however, I really want to allow myself the opportunity to take myself where I'd like to go and see things I'd like to see, regardless of the destination, big or small. I have already started taking the time to plan out destinations I'd like to go to in 2022!

WORK ON MYSELF

This is another personal goal I have for myself. I have done and experienced so much personal growth within myself in the past few years, and I simply want to continue to work on myself in the best ways. Simply put, I want to break bad habits and stop giving myself to what does not deserve me. I plan to really invest so much time and energy into myself and I'm very excited to reflect in a year and determine what I have accomplished.
