Limiting Exposure to EMFS

Though EMFs are not great for anyone, I recently found out that individuals with auto immune disorders and diseases tend to be more sensitive to EMFs. I have been taking more time to be mindful of my surroundings and make my environment more friendly for myself and my body. EMFs stands for electromagnetic fields and based on my research and to my understanding, these are a combination of electrical and magnetic fields of force. They can be naturally generated, as well as generated by human activities by the use of equipment such as laptops, cell phones, and microwaves.

I have previously talked about having Hashimoto's thyroiditis disease, an auto immune disease that affects your thyroid which ultimately affects your entire body. EMF exposure is comparable to a stress-like stimulation within the body. Individuals with auto immune and chronic illnesses can be more sensitive to this exposure and in turn, this may cause an increase or worsening symptoms and autoimmune flare ups.

It's known that EMF exposure can be harmful. For example, studies have proven that EMF exposure can be linked to cancer, infertility, thyroid issues, fatigue, and brain inflammation (just a few). It's almost impossible to know how much exposure you are receiving because this happens every day. You are exposed by things as simple as telephone wires, the Bluetooth on your phone, the use of laptops and cell phones, hair dryers, microwaves, and more.

Today's post, I'm listing just a few smaller ways to be more diligent and limit exposure of EMFs within your home (especially if you have autoimmune or chronic illnesses).

  • Stay distanced from appliances such as the microwave, washer, and television.
  • Turn off your cellphone bluetooth when you're not using it
  • Do not have your laptop placed on your lap when using it
  • Unplug any appliances near your head while you sleep  (ex. lamps, phone charge, etc)
  • Minimize use of devices such as cell phones and laptops
  • Limit x-rays, sun tanning and tanning beds
  • Unplug WIFI when you're not using it

There's many ways to be proactive and prevent unnecessary exposure, these are just a few!

Here are some links to the sources I read through when I researched this:
