New York City Christmas Travel Guide

New York City during Christmas and the wintertime is absolutely breathtaking, and if you have the opportunity to go, you must go! Aside from the usual travel tips of where you must stay or how to get there, I'm going to focus on what you must see. I did this sight seeing within a 24 hour timeframe and there is a lot to see so regardless of your timeframe, planning ahead and mapping out the locations is a must.

A couple of things to keep in mind are:

  • Dress according to the weather. NYC gets cold so layers are your friend.
  • Prepare yourself for crowding. Most of the decorations are all near the others and therefore, the usual NYC crowds and adding the tourist crowds can be overwhelming.
  • If you want the best pictures (no to little crowding), visit the decorations very early in the morning or very late at night.
  • Take advantage of being in the city and explore things outside of the decorations and Christmas themed attractions.
Must see locations and attractions:

Radio City Music Hall

Directly across the street from Radio City Music Hall, you can see these huge lights and ornaments!

Around the corner, you can see the rink at Rockefeller and the most beautiful Christmas tree!

You can also stop at Bryant Park for ice skating and more Christmas decorations!

While you're in midtown, you'll come across more Christmas decorations all over!

Some extra stops to make within this area are
  • Fifth Avenue
  • Park Avenue
  • The Plaza Hotel
  • Washington Square Park
These all have beautiful decorations placed to see as well! Another must see while you're checking these out is Saks Fifth Avenue, there is a beautiful light show that is put on!

My last recommendation and I truly believe is a must see.. Central Park! The wintertime and any snow make it so much more magical than it already is! There is another ice rink you can utilize as well. This rink has a beautiful view of the city!
