Hocus Pocus Filming Locations & Salem, MA Travel Guide

In honor of the year anniversary since I visited Salem, and the season of fall upon us, I thought this was the perfect time to make this post! If you're visiting or thinking of planning a trip to the "Witch City", this is for you! I'm going to share some of my favorite sights, experiences, and food. I'll further break down some popular Hocus Pocus filming locations that are must see if you love the movie like me!

If you're not within driving distance or prefer to not drive, flying into the Boston Logan International Airport is the next best option. It is approximately 30 minutes from Salem. With this said, booking somewhere to stay can be a nightmare. Some popular, but pricier options are The Hawthorne HotelThe Salem Inn, and Hotel SalemAirbnb is also a great alternative to seek out affordable places to stay!

Salem has a lot of history and character. If you're visiting, you'll want to make sure to stop by some of places that make Salem what it is today. Some of my personal favorite sites, and must see stops were The Bewitched Statue, The Salem Witch Trials Memorial, The Witch House, and visiting The Salem Witch Village. All behind visiting the iconic Hocus Pocus houses & filming locations, of course.

To begin the tour, you'll want to check out the The Salem Witch Village - 282 Derby Street - Located here you can shop gifts, souvenirs, as well as Pagan & Wiccan supplies. You can also purchase tickets to additional attractions they host. Almost directly across, you'll want to stop to see the The Salem Witch Trials Memorial (located on Liberty Street, between Charter and Derby Street). At the memorial, you will find the memorials of the 20 victims of the Salem Witch Trials. Directly behind this, you can stop to visit the Charter Street Cemetery (Old Burying Point) which is Salem's oldest cemetery.

Depending on your preference of interest, the next stops can be just that, a stop for sight seeing, or they offer tickets that can be purchased and allow your entrance.

  • The House Of Seven Gambles - 115 Derby Street - this house famous for the haunting history in regards to the Witch Trials.
  • The Witch House - 310 Essex Street - again famous for the Witch Trials; however, is the only house with direct links to the trials.
  • Salem Witch Museum - 19 1/2 North Washington Square - focuses on the events of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and the image of the witch throughout the years.
  • Witch Dungeon Museum - 16 Lynde Street - a live performance of the events that took place during the Witch Trials
  • Witch History Museum - 197 Essex Street - a live performance followed up with a guided tour to take a look into the living quarters during the Witch Trials
Prior to leaving Salem, you have to see the Bewitched Statue - 235 Essex Street, as well as the Hocus Pocus filming locations!
  • Dani & Max's House - 4 Ocean Avenue
  • Allison's House (Ropes Mansion) - 318 Essex Street
  • Old Town Hall - 32 Derby Square
  • Thackery Binx's House (Pioneer Village) - 98 West Avenue

While doing all this touring, you'll need to stop to grab a bite to eat and maybe a drink! Some of my favorite restaurants are Howling Wolf TaqueriaRed's Sandwich Shop, and Mercy Tavern. If you're looking for an adult beverage outside of restaurant style mixed drinks, Far From The Tree Cider is a great place to find craft cider.

That about rounds up my travel guide! Thank you for reading and stay spooky!
